Hi, all! Today’s post is the third in my weekend getaway series – Washington, D.C. As always, this is not an extensive list of everything to do and see. It’s a condensed trip and the things that we chose to do, see, and enjoyed!

Cameron flew in Thursday night and we went to Hill Country BBQ for dinner after local friends recommended it. It was great! We stayed at the Courtyard Marriott Washington DC / Foggy Bottom for free with my Marriott points. I had never been to DC but this ended up being a great spot and we were able to walk everywhere we needed.

On Friday, it rained ALL DAY! Luckily we had our good rain coats packed – this is my favorite – Columbia Women’s Arcadia Ii Jacket

and good walking shoes. We started with indoor activities – the museums. First was the National Air and Space Museum, which we both enjoyed. Next, was The Holocaust Museum… it’s hard to describe how you feel after you visit, but you should definitely go if you have time.

When the rain slowed down, we hit the monuments! First, the National World War II Memorial. If the Freedom Wall doesn’t give you chills and really make you think about sacrifices that fellow humans have made, I don’t know what will.

Next was the National Mall, which is home to the Washington Monument and the Lincoln Memorial.

That night, we went to dinner at Oyamel. Again, great! We quickly learned DC has so much good food to offer and we could have just spent the entire weekend eating. We finished the night at a fun dive bar called Millie & Al’s. When the light in the top corner turns on, it’s $1 Jell-O shots for the next 60 seconds. People run to the bar and buy them by the tray!

On Saturday, the sun came out! We started at the Korean War Veterans Memorial, then the Martin Luther King, Jr. National Memorial, and the US Capitol building.

We saw the Jefferson Memorial across the way from the MLK Memorial but didn’t think we had time to walk over and visit. We grabbed lunch at Nando’s in Chinatown, stopped by the White House, and then braved the metro to get to the National Zoo.

That night we had dinner at Graffiato and finished the with drinks at Jack Rose Dining Saloon.

Sunday morning, we were back home to Florida! DC was a really amazing weekend getaway that we would be happy to do again.
