Girls' Weekend
at Ojo Santa Fe

Getting there

If you’re flying to visit Santa Fe, there are a few airport options:

  1. Santa Fe (SAF) – 9.6 miles from Santa Fe
  2. Albuquerque (ABQ) – 58.7 miles from Santa Fe
  3. Alamosa (ALS) – 122.1 miles from Santa Fe

Long weekend in Santa Fe

As you’ll see in other posts, my best friend, Supriya, and I take an annual girls’ trip together. We started in 2021 and hope that we can keep it going forever!

Our trips are typically go, go, go! This year, we needed a bit of a slowdown so we chose Ojo Santa Fe Spa Resort in Santa Fe, NM. How did we find it? Randomly, on Pinterest years ago. I saved it because they have a Puppy Patch! This trip was May 19th-22nd.

Day 1

Supriya flew into ABQ from California the night of the 18th and stayed at an Airbnb in Albuquerque. I flew in the morning of the 19th from Florida, rented a car, and picked her up.

We made the quick 1-hour drive to Ojo and sat down at Blue Heron Restaurant to order brunch. I’ll just get it out of the way now – every meal we had over the weekend was delicious!

The temperatures were much cooler than we anticipated, so we walked over to the spa after brunch and bought matching sweats. Then off to soak! We’re both terrible at relaxing and had to force ourselves to just sit and enjoy.

After soaking for a bit, our room was ready. We went to change and then made our first visit to the PUPPY PATCH! The Puppy Patch is a program where Ojo has partnered with Espanole Humane. Puppies that come into the shelter get to live at Ojo, play with guests, and ultimately, get adopted! At the time of our visit, the program had been in place for 3 years and there had been 491 adoptions! Absolutely amazing.

When puppy playtime was over, we were back at Blue Heron for dinner.

We ended our day with massages at the spa and slept incredibly well.

Day 2

Supriya and I were awake and soaking by 7:30 AM. It was nice to have the pools to ourselves that early!

The Puppy Patch opened at 9:30 AM and I was first in line. While I played, Supriya was at yoga which starts every day at 9:00 AM.

After yoga, Supriya met me at the patch and we walked over to Blue Heron for another delectable brunch.

We hadn’t yet experienced the daily Chicken Chat, so we made sure to be over at the silkie chickens before noon. During the chat, you get to feed the silkie chickens and watch them run around being their silly chicken selves.

The rest of the afternoon was spent lounging by the pools until it was time to get ready for our annual bestie photoshoot.

I’ve always loved having photos of special moments. When Supriya and I started our girls’ trips in 2021, we wanted to commemorate it with professional photos rather than hundreds of selfies. So for our third year in a row, we ventured off to meet a local photographer – Kristina Graff

To say we have fun getting dressed up and frolicking around outside is an understatement.

Day 3

Rather than starting with a soak on Day 3, we left Ojo and visited Broken Saddle Riding Company for a horseback riding tour. Our guide was so much fun! We had a blast with the group and lucked out on gorgeous weather.

After our ride, we relaxed and read the books we had packed for the weekend. That evening, we visited the Puppy Patch (of course), had dinner at Blue Heron, and went for an eveing soak.

Day 4

Monday – our last morning.

We checked out the Ojo trails and went for a nice walk. Breakfast after and then a quick soak before we had to pack and check out.

With a little bit of time left before our flights, we drove to downtown Santa Fe to check out the shops.

Then it was off to California and Florida!
